About Anya Sitaram

Anya Sitaram is an award winning journalist and broadcaster specialising in science, medical and environment reporting.  For many years she has been a familiar face on our TV screens both as a reporter and a newsreader. She now runs a television production company making factual programmes for UK and international broadcasters.

Anya began her journalistic career as a BBC local radio trainee before moving to ITN where she became a reporter and Health and Science Correspondent. Later she joined the BBC’s flagship science programme Tomorrow’s World where she spent four years travelling around the world reporting on the latest medical and science breakthroughs. Anya has also anchored bulletins for BBC News 24, Sky News and BBC World news where she was a regular host of Asia Today.

In her role as television executive producer Anya develops and oversees the production of programmes, many on medical, environment and international development issues. Her documentaries have been screened at the House of Lords and on Capitol Hill in Washington. Among series Anya has overseen are The Health Show –a 26 part series on global health for BBC World, Hot Cities on cities adapting to climate change and Survival, a landmark series of hour-long documentaries looking at how local communities are responding do the world’s major diseases.

Anya is a professional conference moderator and regularly chairs high level panels for UN bodies and European Commission among others.

  • 2008: Invited by WHO’s Director General to moderate a roundtable of First Ladies to discuss ways of improving maternal health around the world, UN assembly New York
