Sir David Nicholas

Sir David Nicholas Image Sir David Nicholas joined ITN in 1960. In 1963 he became the Deputy Editor and was Editor and Chief Executive between 1977 and 1989. During this time he started News at Ten in 1967, News at One in 1972, Channel 4 News in 1982 and ITN's service to foreign broadcasters and airlines, World News, in 1986. Sir David produced ITN's special news events, general election coverage, US Presidential elections, the Apollo moon exploration programmes, budget day programmes and royal events during his career at ITN.

Sir David was appointed CBE in 1982 and knighted for his services to broadcasting in 1989.

During his career at ITN Sir David worked with many of the heavyweights in television journalism, Sir Alastair Burnet, the late Sir Ian Trethowan, Sandy Gall, Peter Sissons, the late Andrew Gardner, the late Reginald Bosanquet, Anna Ford, Selina Scott, Robert Kee and Sir Trevor McDonald.

Sir David retired from ITN in 1991 but still plays a very active part in the media. He has been a non-executive director of Channel Four, he is currently chairman of SNTV (Sports News television - a joint venture between TWI and APTN). He has been Chairman of Talk Radio UK, a non-executive director of Channel One and holds various positions at some universities in Britain and the United States
