He spent four years as Channel Four's Midlands Correspondent, covering the Soham murders, and the demise of Rover. He has also reported from Washington for the programme. Carl was nominated for a Mental Health in the Media award for work on the psychological problems faced by soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq. He has been deployed to Iraq himself; embedded with the US Army as they advanced from Kuwait to Baghdad in 2003 and returning when the Black Watch were moved North into the Sunni Triangle the following year. Before Channel Four News Carl was GMTV's Ireland Correspondent covering the Holy Cross and Drumcree disputes. In the afternmath of 9-11 he also reported from New York and Pakistan. Prior to that Carl had been a producer on the very programme with which he was to end up; Channel Four News. He worked in Kosovo, Yemen and Hong Kong amongst others. Carl graduated from Trinity Hall, Cambridge with a degree in Social and Political Science and took a place on the ITN Graduate Trainee Scheme. He was born in Dublin, grew up in Northern Ireland and lives in Hertfordshire. |
